Are you your world’s worst critic or biggest cheerleader?
If you were paid 10 cents for every kind word you said to yourself and had to pay 5 cents for every unkind word, would you be rich or poor?
What does your internal dialogue sound like?
Recently I was listening to a recording of Dr. Rick Moss, author of the Light Travellers Notebook where he states; “Your thoughts and beliefs about yourself are out pictured and externalized so you can see them and heal them. The body is a physical expression of your mind. Are your words harmful?”
What we think, we become, physically and emotionally.
I then began to notice how I was talking and harming myself through my thoughts. Criticizing, judging, questioning and negatively referring to aspects of my body I don’t like; The bunion on my left foot, the fat on my thighs, hips and stomach, the wrinkles on my face. Yes, even I have fat days, ugly days and unhappy days but I have learned over many years of working with NLP therapists and life coaches that we have the capacity to control our thoughts and rewire our patterns, we just have to choose to think differently. That choice begins with awareness – we can’t change what we can’t see.
So where are you placing your awareness?
If I continue to draw my attention to the things I want to make disappear or change, criticize them and judge them, the result is the same, a consistent external projection or ‘out picture’ of an image I don’t want. For this to change, the negativity has to stop! I have to choose to think differently.
I have since shifted my thoughts to aspect of myself I love and extend my gratitude towards the image I want. When ever the ego mind chimes in and starts giving me a hard time, I flip it into a more positive frame by declaring statements such as “*My body is toned, healthy and strong. I am grateful for my energy, happiness and abundance.”
*This declaration must be followed by actions to support the desired outcome.
When you use the words I AM, you are making a declaration to the universe, which is then supported with an emotional state. So, if you wake up in the morning and start your day with the words, I AM Tired, the universe will support this thought with the emotional state of tiredness. Equally, when you wake up in the morning and start your day off with a more positive spin on things such as I AM energized, expect your emotional state to be in support of that. Even if you aren’t feeling that way, sometimes you have to fake it till you make it.
When you look in the mirror, what do you say to yourself?
Create a motto for yourself that is both believable and achievable so when you wake up in the morning feeling tired, or when you look at yourself in the mirror, your I AM statements are in support of what you want to be, feel or experience, not negative manipulations of your ego mind.
My daily motto is I AM healthy, Happy, Fit and Strong.
